Strategies to Increase Student Physical Activity

Funded schools will be implementing four strategies to increase physical activity levels among students. These strategies include:

1. increasing the number of minutes that students are active with an elevated heart rate in PE class,
2. organized activities during recess,
3. before and after school opportunities, and
4. classroom activity breaks.

Wave 1 schools will begin to implement the prescribed physical activity strategies in the 2011-12 school year. Wave 2 schools will not begin implementation until the 2012-13 school year.
